Builder/Manufacturer Cantieri del Pardo

Emma Claire, a very up-together example of these powerful, comfortable cruiser-racers. This Grand Soleil 50 looks much younger than her 1996 launch date would suggest. She has clearly been well looked after and recent updates include a new suite of nav and comms kit, new standing and running rigging, new storm sails and a new mainsail ( 2019 ). Equipped to RORC Category 2 she performed well in recent RTIs and is gearing up for the forthcoming Fastnet. Classic good looks and enduring style generate admiration wherever she goes.

Emma Claire was purchased from her original owner in February 2016.  She had been hardly used in her initial ownership and he had maintained her to a good standard and has passed on all the receipts from the original purchase through the various upgrades and additions to the boat.

We bought Emma Claire to replace a smaller boat with the intention to do the ARC and longer distance racing such as the Fastnet.  Sailing her from Cornwall to the Solent I was immediately impressed by the motion and speed through the water.  The siting of the nav station also makes trips below a pleasure and in cold weather with the heating going it is noticeable how much longer plotting one’s position and track can take!

We have equipped Emma Claire to Category 2 for RORC Racing and have competed quite successfully in the 2017 series although a worn rudder bearing prevented us from completing as many races   as we would have liked.

Upwind progress is swift and she points well to wind and performs as well as a modern Grand Soleil 50 and Swan 48 who have been our main competitors throughout 2017.

Off the wind she handles beautifully and surfing at 15 knots has been achieved on a number of occasions.

In the very breezy 2016 RTI Race which was her first outing the large seas and 30 knot winds were no problem and she remained comfortable and easy to helm throughout.

Our Fastnet was cut short by a power problem which has been addressed but up until our retirement we were very well placed in the fleet.

Down below the joinery is in great order and there is massive storage with sensibly located wet locker.  The saloon is a delight to sit in and eat and drink with friends.

Above all Emma Claire has classic good looks and definitely has enduring style and receives much admiration from those we overtake.
